One year I chose LIGHT as my word of the year. It was one of my favorite choices ever.

That’s such a great one. ✨

Do you have a word for this year?

Funnily enough, it's piggybacking on LIGHT. It's SHINE, which I resisted like crazy till I finally had to just give in after confirmation after confirmation that this was indeed my word for this year. It sounds so self-seeking, but it's not how I'm thinking of it.

Oh I love that! Such a great word, and I can’t imagine you, for a moment, being self-seeking. ✨

You’re very kind to say that. It’s been growing on me as the year is progressing.

I hope it only continues!

I could not agree more about War & Peace. How in the world have I missed out on this joy for 41 years? What fun it is to be reading along side you!

I too am looking for light. I’ve begun to make a habit of shooting film when light astounds me. Can’t wait for the scans.

Thanks for sharing! When I read about your love of light of any kind in the beginning it reminded me of how the elves from Tolkien’s books love light most of all. Especially star light. It’s sacred to them.

Yet another reason I think I’d be an Elf if I were a Tolkien character! ✨

Nice. I love the lamp. My wife hipped me to the aesthetics of a good lamp. Before her, I wouldn’t have thought twice about hanging a single bulb in a room and not caring that it could double for an interrogation room. I’m hear to learn lol.

Also, I had never heard of the term a Panster. I guess I could have been called that for my first novel, but for this one, I wouldn’t allow myself the luxury of such wandering. And I am grateful for it. I will do the same thing you have done once I have completed my first draft. Thanks for the idea--when the time comes, I’ll ask for more details if that’s fine.

The light was beautiful today. Thank you for this note and support for the presence of light, literal and figurative.

Happy to help should you ever decide to ask! With this novel, I had a general idea of where it might go but I had more questions than answers, by far. With my second, I’ve outlined somewhat and would consider myself more of a Plantser, a hybrid of by the seat of your pants and planning everything meticulously -- always staying open to what the characters want to show me vs what I want them to do.

To me overhead lighting is so invasive. My disdain for it definitely grew more intense after my eye disease! I’d only ever use lamp light if I could! 🤣

Simply beautiful. I, like you, look for the moon at night, and I love to see the stars. Your lamp inspires!
